Steam on the Levels - Conclusion

Well what a weekend! Thursday and Friday saw a huge amount of effort from our volunteers to prepare. Roping off in the adjacent field, putting up marquees, setting out tables, cutting grass etc. By the end of play Friday the field was still looking rather empty! A bit of doubt began to creep in as to whether everything was going to turn up but come opening time Saturday morning the exhibitors field was packed, the boiler was lit and all the volunteers were poised ready for the first visitors. The rest of course was a blur as the weekend shot by without any major hiccups. All areas of the volunteer run refreshments, teas, coffees, cake, hot food and bar had a huge throughput and by far exceeded last years takings all thanks to a better position and the super efforts of those running them.

Thanks to all the volunteers, our museum neighbours who provide the field, our other neighbour who helped provide huge numbers of home baked cakes, and the exhibitors who came along and supported the event. Just under 500 people passed through the entrance with a whole load of exhibitors as well!

So now to organising Steam on the Levels 2014! Hope to see you next year!

SOTL just around the corner...

Tomorrow we start on site preparation for the event! Even more last minute entries set this to be the best Steam on the Levels thus far. All we hope now is that the paper work transpires into a successful weekend and the Trust is able to raise as much money as possible for input into the museum. Last years profit was set aside to ensure the museum builds its new facilities extension providing disabled and general visitors toilets, a volunteer mess room and additional tea room space. The progress of which can be seen on site when you come and see us this weekend! We will be opening the gates from 10am to 5pm on both Saturday and Sunday, alongside our collection of 25+ stationary steam engines will be an eclectic mix of vintage vehicles, stationary engines, farming equipment, crafts & sales stands and other general interest stalls. See www.steamonthelevels.co.uk for more information. Next post on here will be after the event and will cover all that went on... its bound to contain plenty of images!

Steam on the Levels... Update

Things are still progressing along nicely in preparation for the event. A few last minute entries have been received including a Field Marshall tractor. We are also very excited to be expecting a couple of traction engines. One will be a newly imported engine from Ireland now resident in Somerset and belonging to one of the trust members. It is a fowler and was built as a roller but at some point converted. Come along and see this engine and all the other guest exhibits and 25+ permanent stationary steam engines! www.steamonthelevels.co.uk

Steam on the Levels

It's been so busy leading up to our main event of the year! Exhibitors forms have come in, passes sent out (just) and promotion has been on going. Today has seen the placing of our PVC banners in suitable locations. Our main position is at Durston on the A361 outside Durston Elms garage. We are very grateful to the owners letting us put them here in such a prominent and busy location.
Thanks must also be given to the Bridgwater Town Clerk who lets us put a banner on the railings outside the Town Hall in Bridgwater. We are still negotiating a position for one more!

We have got a couple of late entries and if anyone would still like to enter an exhibit please email me directly at jason.keswick@wzlet.org we will be happy to accept you.

And to finish we hope you can come along and see what all the fuss is about! Visit www.steamonthelevels.co.uk for more information!
